Tundra Esports announced a massive corporate pivot that leaves them with plenty of memes but absolutely zero competitive players. The London-based organization confirmed that it is completely abandoning competitive play across all gaming titles. Instead, they are rebranding as a digital media hub focused on news, entertainment shows, and interactive content. They told fans they are simply changing seats to follow the scene right alongside them from the crowd. “We love you all far too much to simply pack up, shut down our social media channels, and fade into the background. That’s why we’re staying right here! From now on,…

A little bit of space travel, anyone? Last time I checked in on Starseeker: Astroneer Expeditions, the sort of spin off of regular ole Astroneer, it had only just shown off some gameplay for the first time. Esports organizers love telling teams to build heated regional rivalries, create content, and put on a show for the fans. That is, until the teams actually do it. Riot Games officially stepped into the principal’s office on June 1, handing out a fresh batch of financial penalties to Karmine Corp, Movistar KOI, and midlaner Joseph “Jojopyun” Pyun following a highly explosive weekend at the LEC Roadtrip event in Madrid. The trouble kicked off three weeks ago when an online clip surfaced criticizing the opening match attendance. Instead of ignoring the bait, Movistar KOI founder Ibai Llanos jumped on X to…

A judge in Nevada has granted the state’s gambling regulator a preliminary injunction against Polymarket. It is another victory for the state, which has been the most successful at fighting against prediction markets offering sports contracts.  Polymarket was forced to restrict users in Nevada in February after Judge Jason D. Woodbury granted a temporary restraining order against the company.  Judge Woodbury upheld that decision and granted the Nevada Gaming Control Board’s (NGCB) motion for a preliminary injunction against Polymarket.  “We are very pleased with Judge Woodbury’s ruling and will continue to vigorously enforce Nevada law to safeguard gaming in our…

There’s something fishy going on here. Imagine you’re me for a moment (sorry, I’m sorry, it’ll be over soon). I’m having a browse on Steam, looking for anything a bit different, when you see a vibrant, CRT-interlacing ridden Atari-esque looking game called Bounce 2. I click on, and discover it’s a sequel to a 1983 Atari 2600 game called Bounce that was designed to be a PONG killer, only to release during the infamous video game crash. Except I think none of this is true! Well, apart from the bit about Bounce 2 existing. When you see that…

© ESL | Jak Howard In the UK and the US, authorities are stepping up efforts to ban advertising that targets minors. The UK banned two ads featuring sports stars, while the US has introduced the GAME Act to prohibit ads that appeal to under-18s. The question of what is deemed appealing to minors was partly answered by the Advertising Standards Agency (ASA) in the UK last week. The agency ruled on two ads that featured well-known soccer players.  In one instance, an ad featuring ex-Arsenal forward Thierry Henry was deemed to be acceptable. The ASA said that the 48-year-old,…

The studio behind Skylanders, Spyro Reignited Trilogy, and Crash Bandicoot 4 recently spoke about life after Activision, revealing that becoming independent has allowed the team to focus once again on the types of games it truly wants to create. According to studio leadership (via IGN), many developers felt disconnected from their strengths while working as a support studio on Call of Duty projects. Although those assignments were important for Activision, they weren’t the colorful, character-driven experiences that Toys for Bob had built its reputation on. That changed in 2024 when the studio became independent following Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard.…
