Platinum Games is hiring new staff for an online action game, following the departure of several well known developers from the company.

Spotted by Tech4Gamers, the company listed a game designer role on its official website, stating that an online action game is in the works at the studio. The job listing lists some desired skills, including experience working on online action games as well as history in level design for online or “open field” games.

Platinum Games, which is currently working on Ninja Gaiden 4 alongside Team Ninja, has had a mixed run these past few years. Bayonetta 3, got a positive review from us, Babylon’s Fall was an astronomical failure, and senior developers have left, including but not limited to Hideki Kamiya.

Given Babylon’s Fall, the online action title listed in this job ad would be the studio’s second attempt at this style of game. Platinum Games has long struggled with financial success, even as its single player games have proven critically popular, garnering a loyal fanbase over the years. Games like Astral Chain, which were absolutely mint, never quite brought in the big bucks. The company’s desire to pursue online games makes business sense with this in mind, even if older Platinum Games fans see the sort of games they loved become less of a priority.

Given that Platinum is only hiring right now for this online action game, it’s safe to say we probably won’t see it any time soon. But still, it’s something to keep an eye out for. We know Platinum Games has several games cooking in the oven at the moment (Ninja Gaiden 4 included), so while recent years have marked a new era for Platinum, it’s clear the studio isn’t finished just yet.

Do you think making an online action game is the smart move for Platinum? Let us know below!

Final Fantasy Resonance brings an all new HD-2D game with classic turn-based action https://gaming.vmondeika.com/final-fantasy-resonance-brings-an-all-new-hd-2d-game-with-classic-turn-based-action/ https://gaming.vmondeika.com/final-fantasy-resonance-brings-an-all-new-hd-2d-game-with-classic-turn-based-action/#respond Fri, 12 Jun 2026 03:12:35 +0000 https://gaming.vmondeika.com/final-fantasy-resonance-brings-an-all-new-hd-2d-game-with-classic-turn-based-action/

It took a while to get going, but the Nintendo Direct has started firing out some exciting new announcements, and for Switch-owning Final Fantasy fans, the appearance of Final Fantasy Resonance, an all-new HD-2D pixel-art entry in the series, should keep them very happy indeed.

Final Fantasy Resonance is launching on 22nd October for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, and PC.

Final Fantasy Resonance is set in the world of Lapis, a place beset by evildoers, that lies on the edge of annihilation. You play as Rain, a knight of Gransheld, who must travel across the world taking down monsters and badguys in turn-based combat. There’s some clear Octopath Traveller vibes going on, but this also leans more heavily on 3D areas and 2D sprites, to give it its own feel.

You can also call upon Visions – Final Fantasy stars from other games, including the iconic Cloud Strife – to help you in battle, unleashing powerful moves and abilities as you do. These seem to take the form of full CGI cutscenes, which might feel a bit odd, but I guess we’ll have to wait and see how it turns out.

Either way, you won’t have to wait all that long to get your hands on this one. It’s just four months away!

Team WE’s dwindling hope, SkewMond becoming best LEC player, Cloud9’s last chance: League of Legends action leading up to MSI https://gaming.vmondeika.com/team-wes-dwindling-hope-skewmond-becoming-best-lec-player-cloud9s-last-chance-league-of-legends-action-leading-up-to-msi/ https://gaming.vmondeika.com/team-wes-dwindling-hope-skewmond-becoming-best-lec-player-cloud9s-last-chance-league-of-legends-action-leading-up-to-msi/#respond Thu, 11 Jun 2026 21:59:40 +0000 https://gaming.vmondeika.com/team-wes-dwindling-hope-skewmond-becoming-best-lec-player-cloud9s-last-chance-league-of-legends-action-leading-up-to-msi/ lec stage

Even though the Mid-Season Invitational is less than three weeks away, teams across the world are busy with their spring splits. Some leagues have crowned their champions while others are still finalizing their seeds, with four teams still to be confirmed.

This past week, Top Esports has booked its place, leaving BiliBili Gaming, Anyone’s Legend, and Team WE fighting for the second spot. G2 Esports came out on top again, beating Karmine Corp in the LEC Versus final rematch. FURIA has proven that Brazil can fight with its own talent.

In North America, LYON dominated Cloud9, with big question marks regarding its true potential. Dplus Kia’s elimination raises many questions, both inside and outside the Rift.

Here are some of the most interesting storylines leading up to MSI

Are Team WE’s Playoff Hopes Over? Things are Getting Rough

At the start of the split, no one thought Team WE would end up fighting for a spot at MSI, yet the team made the unthinkable reality. Unfortunately, that hope is getting dimmer now after the loss against Top Esports, who have once again locked an international appearance.

TES’ 3-0 win not only ended WE’s momentum but also exposed WE’s weaknesses. The latter had shown their ability to drag their opponents into their comfort zone, which relied on chaotic skirmishes.

Top Esports understood that and did the exact opposite, using their strong fundamentals to fight on their own terms, with jungler Gao “Tian” Tian-Liang dictating the tempo of the game.

With the loss, the scenarios for Team WE are getting complicated. BiliBili Gaming has seemingly recovered from the upset and is looking dominant, with all their players in great form, especially support Luo “ON” Wen-Jun.

“There’s not a player in the world that plays like ON right now, truly fearless in the way he approaches every play – and BLG are better for it,” said color caster Alex “Nymaera” Hapgood. A potential rematch is expected to be in BLG’s favor, unless Monki pulls off another miracle.

G2 Beat Karmine Corp, and SkewMond Takes Another Step

G2 Esports winning Europe is almost routine at this point. The 3-2 win over Karmine Corp gave the organization its 19th LEC title and will send G2 directly to MSI’s Bracket Stage. KC, after coming close to the title, will start from Play-Ins.

While it wasn’t a clean stomp, G2’s wins were spearheaded by a monstrous Rudy “SkewMond” Semaan, who went deathless in the team’s three wins. The jungler, who rightfully earned the MVP award, even pulled out a Nasus jungle, “bonking” his enemies.

His performances and importance within the team bring up the question that is starting to follow him: Is SkewMond the best European player to emerge since Caps?

Even though the claim is still a bit too early, he’s on course to be that guy. The level of dominance ever since his debut last year, paired with G2’s recent strong international record, is elevating him to that status. He will need a bit more time to build his résumé, but the trend suggests that everything is lining up well for the French player.

For EU fans, G2 and KC were the best teams to send based on what they’ve shown in Spring. The French squad will be one to watch, especially given that they will have to face the LCK #2 seed to enter the top eight. While it could be a short run, it will definitely be a valuable one, especially considering KC is expected to be among the EU representatives for Worlds 2026.

Dplus KIA Needs Fixes Inside and Outside the Rift

Dplus Kia is not going to MSI. Their run ended after the loss against KT Rolster in the worst way possible. Despite leading in both Game 4 and Game 5, the team dropped both games in heated teamfights.

Aside from the gameplay, however, a lot of DK’s attention has been outside of the game. At the end of the series, head coach Kim “cvMax” Dae-ho was once again caught in the eyestorm after making inappropriate comments during the post-match interview, prompting the organization to enforce higher standards for media communication.

This is just the latest controversy around DK’s head coach, following earlier criticism of his harsh coaching style. While the potential is there, as clearly shown by the team throughout the first part of the LCK season, DK needs to create a healthier environment, far away from the drama.

While missing MSI is understandable given the presence of powerhouses like T1, Hanwha Life Esports, and Gen.G, Dplus Kia will need to get into the top four if they want a shot at Worlds.

Cloud9 Has One Last Series to Avoid Another Painful Ending

Cloud9’s 0-3 loss to LYON in the LCS Spring Playoffs is giving fans deja vu from last year, when the team failed to qualify for the Mid-Season Invitational. It’s not just about the loss: the team looked lost compared to LYON, unable to match its teamfights.

A Reddit user explained C9’s form perfectly: “They used to be the underdogs, the cluch team that could punch above their weight… Now they’re the regular season leaders who anti-clutch and find new and innovative ways to choke every time it matters.”

C9 has shown repeatedly to have consistency throughout the regular season but fails to level up its gameplay when it matters the most. The sweep will inevitably put a lot of pressure on C9, who will now face Team Liquid for the second MSI spot.

Mid laner Lim “Quid” Hyeon-seung has stepped up lately, taking up more of a carry role within the team, similar to how it was when he played for 100Thieves last year. The mid-jungle will likely be the key to the match.

FURIA’s Sin Could Change How Brazil Builds Teams

FURIA earned back-to-back appearances at MSI following a strong showing throughout the second split.

The victory, however, seems to have also changed the perspective on CBLOL teams’ roster building. The fact that FURIA won with a full Brazilian team proved that Brazil can rely on its own talents to win domestically and earn the international qualification.

This seems to be leading many organizations to follow a similar path, with many teams looking to change their import players.

LOUD is reportedly looking to change both jungler Ko “YoungJae” Yeong-jae and ADC Song “Bull” Seon-gyu with Brazilian players Enzo “Sinatra” Candido Ferreira and Yudi Leonardo “NinjaKiwi” Miyashiro. V

ivo Keyd Stars will not only have a new head coach in Ludvig Erik Hugo “Smiley” Granquist but also see the departure of Korean top laner Choi “Wizer” Eui-seok and support Ling “Kaiwing” Kai Wing, who was supposed to elevate VKS to new heights.

Brazil is moving towards more domestic talents again: “Invest in LATAM,” said a user on Reddit. “Stop looking at Korea when there’s proof local talent can go toe to toe with NA at least.”

While imports can quickly raise a team’s ceiling through strong fundamentals, Brazil’s greatest runs were built on the synergy of local talent, with unexpected playstyles and strategies.

Last year, FURIA came close to upsetting G2 Esports in the play-in stage. With them now directly to the bracket stage, the Brazilian team will have the golden opportunity to showcase CBLOL’s potential to the world.

Romeo is a Dead Man review – an offbeat action game that finds its groovy, gory rhythm https://gaming.vmondeika.com/romeo-is-a-dead-man-review-an-offbeat-action-game-that-finds-its-groovy-gory-rhythm/ https://gaming.vmondeika.com/romeo-is-a-dead-man-review-an-offbeat-action-game-that-finds-its-groovy-gory-rhythm/#respond Thu, 11 Jun 2026 20:55:55 +0000 https://gaming.vmondeika.com/romeo-is-a-dead-man-review-an-offbeat-action-game-that-finds-its-groovy-gory-rhythm/

Like the summonable, energy-shooting ghoul I cultivated on my spaceship’s zombie farm, Romeo is a Dead Man is a bit of a grower. After an iffy start that exhibits plenty of Grasshopper Manufacture weirdness but not much Grasshopper Manufacture charm, its disparate parts do eventually coalesce, forming a lean yet muscular hack ‘n’ slash with a playful talent for mixing up its mediums.

God, so many mediums. The tale of Romeo – small town cop turned cyborg samurai, enlisted to hunt multiple space-time variants of obviously evil ex Juliet – is told not just through Unreal Engine cutscenes, but also animated pulp comics, stop motion, and 16-bit pixel art, and that’s just in the first half hour. It gets eclectic while you’re actually playing, too: bloody melee combat remains the star but it’s rarely long before you’re dragged off to do some 3D puzzling, or to upgrade your stats and items by playing arcade and mini-games.

It’s unfortunate that, in the early stages, not all of it lands. Such variety initially appears to paint a surface-level veneer of innovation over the action, which itself starts slow, only pitting you against shambling undead and the occasional powered-up meat monster. Neither does it help that the plot is largely stakeless multiverse nonsense, adopting a blandly literal interpretation of Suda51’s recurring Kill the Past theme and repeatedly contradicting itself with cheerful ‘Don’t worry about it’ handwaves. Game, I want to worry about it! Worrying is just caring with an extra syllable!

Stick with it, though, and Romeo is a Dead Man develops a genuine capacity to surprise. In part, because it knows when to commit to the bit. There’s an extended sequence halfway through that dips into survival horror, and instead of merely taking away Romeo’s ability to swing a sword, the entire game shifts into a claustrophobic over-the-shoulder perspective while introducing stealth and Resident Evil-style puzzle elements that never reappear anywhere else. That’s a bonkers amount of investment for a single switch-up. I don’t want to spoil the latter stages, like I’m apparently willing to do for the horror bit, but these also run further with the cross-media aspect, skillfully relieving some of the more dramatic moments with high-effort swerves into absurdist, visually diverse comedy.

Also, y’know, it’s a pretty good action game. Combat recovers from its weak start as well, both trusting you to uncover the nuances of its combo swishing and gradually enlarging the menagerie of angry flesh flappers – mostly in a sensible order of challenge – to test what you’ve learned. Romeo is no Dante or Raiden, agility-wise, but what his fighting style lacks in flashiness is more than made up for in tangible, satisfying weight. Even the default sword, perhaps the most purely functional weapon among an arsenal of power fists and sci-fi spears, cuts through crowds and bisects behemoths with a moreish chunkiness. Romeo can also wield guns, though I ended up having enough fun with the blades that I only whipped out my shotgun when necessary. As in, needing to shoot things that were either a) flying out of reach or b) liable to explode in my face upon thwacking them.

The relatively lengthy wind-ups and recovery times do require more than a measure of timing, and bosses will happily teach a harsh lesson in it. But simultaneously, Romeo is a Dead Man is barely ever about passively waiting for an opening. There’s no blocking or parrying, and successful strikes fill a blood gauge that lets you lash out with more powerful special moves – which also partially refill your health. All of this conspires to thrust you into highly aggressive, excitingly pacey brawls, where taking some hits might be worth it if you can fill that blood bar in return. Dodging, too, often feels like less of an evasive technique and more an offensive manoeuvre for shifting into the optimal backstabbing angle.

None of this is especially groundbreaking. But it seems like before you can start layering on novelty cinematics and genre juggling, it’d be important to for your action game to have good action. And Romeo is a Dead Man’s fighty parts are meaty, frantic, and terribly good fun.

Truth be told, it’s also not just the most ambitious of Dead Man’s silly asides that can extract a grin. Between missions, I always enjoyed returning to the FBI’s spaceship hub (long story), where – in exchange for parting with the third dimension – you can chat, trade, and upgrade with weirdo agents and amusingly out-of-place family members. Here, the ‘Sure, whatever’ humour works better than in main story beats; nobody questions the logic of growing allied zombies like carrots so you can call them up in later battles, which makes it funnier when you yank one out of the dirt to triumphant fanfare. And there’s something both sweet and entertaining about having Romeo’s mum, settled inside the ship’s galley, cook buff-granting katsu curries using ingredients you’ve found drifting in space. As Yuri Gagarin said, “I saw how beautiful our planet is, and also how many jars of cumin are just floating around up there.”

I wasn’t quite so happy in Sub-Space, the loosely Tron-ish alternate dimension that most missions have you poking around for keys and light navigational puzzles. Its aesthetic, that of a Zen garden as built in a heavily shader-modded Minecraft, is quite nice. But whereas the rest of the game got better with time, the appeal of yet another dive into Sub-Space only waned. For one thing, a lot of these sections just go on far, far too long, slowing down progress in a way that becomes ever more incongruous with the impetus-heavy combat. For another, going there utterly knackered my framerates.

PC performance, in general, lurches around like a Regent’s Park pedalo in a Caribbean storm. At what is usually an easy 1440p, my RTX 3090 – running Ultra settings with Quality-level DLSS 4 – couldn’t reliably hold 60fps, with drops to 30fps and sometimes even lower in some Sub-Space areas. I also tried the Steam Deck, using the lowest possible settings plus FSR upscaling, and that fell deep into the twenties too – even in real space. This is thankfully not a repeat of the No More Heroes PC port, as you do at least get proper mouse/keyboard support and, evidently, those custom graphics options. Still, it’s no smooth runner either.

Whether that’s a dealbreaker, I’ll leave between you and your rig. If you can run it, though, Romeo is a Dead Man provides smiles, surprises, and memorable swordfights, especially once it warms up. It probably won’t go down as an all-timer in Grasshopper Manufacture’s ouvre, and in 20 years’ time, I doubt YouTube will be recommending me Romeo videos as often as it currently does Killer7’s Russian Roulette scene. But that’s fine: quality slashing and organic zombie gardening can still count for plenty.

See Modern Warfare 4’s DMZ extraction mode in action https://gaming.vmondeika.com/see-modern-warfare-4s-dmz-extraction-mode-in-action/ https://gaming.vmondeika.com/see-modern-warfare-4s-dmz-extraction-mode-in-action/#respond Sun, 07 Jun 2026 19:13:22 +0000 https://gaming.vmondeika.com/see-modern-warfare-4s-dmz-extraction-mode-in-action/

Xbox closed out their main showcase with a look at Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 and its DMZ extraction mode, set to launch as part of the full game bundle on 23rd October 2026.

Modern Warfare 4 will see war reignite in the Korean peninsula, as North invades South, no doubt dragging America and maybe even China into the war. Certainly Captain Price has something to say about it with Task Force 141, but it’s not as clear cut as all that.

Traditionally the single player campaign in the game will have the arena multiplayer alongside, and Warzone will remain a free-to-play game alongside. However, DMZ is joining the premium package.

This will let you deploy solo or in a squad to a conflict zone, tasked with recovering military technology in the wake of the war. With changing weather, dynamic objectives and hostile forces you’ll have to get in, get the tech and get back out.

DMZ could be a great take on the extraction shooter, and will certainly bring it to the broadest audience yet, even as Arc Raiders has proven to be a major hit last year, and Marathon proved to be more of a cult hit so far.

Amazon faces class action lawsuit over Ring facial-recognition feature https://gaming.vmondeika.com/amazon-faces-class-action-lawsuit-over-ring-facial-recognition-feature/ https://gaming.vmondeika.com/amazon-faces-class-action-lawsuit-over-ring-facial-recognition-feature/#respond Tue, 02 Jun 2026 22:30:57 +0000 https://gaming.vmondeika.com/amazon-faces-class-action-lawsuit-over-ring-facial-recognition-feature/ [ad_1]

Amazon was sued on Monday over alleged privacy violations from its Ring doorbell cameras. The class action lawsuit, filed in Seattle by Virginia resident Charles Sigwalt, claims that Ring’s Familiar Faces feature stores images of passersby without consent.

Ring announced the Familiar Faces feature last September and faced pushback from consumer protection organizations like the EFF, as well as Senator Ed Markey (D-MA). But the company moved forward with its plans to launch the feature in December.

Familiar Faces lets Ring users identify people who regularly come to their home through AI facial recognition. That way, if a regular guest, like a family member, mail carrier, or neighbor, comes to the door, the device will be able to recognize them and deliver more specific notifications like “Dad is at the door,” rather than “A person is at the door.” Ring users have to opt in to this feature, but privacy advocates noted that the people who walk past these Ring doorbells have not consented to these facial-recognition scans. That same concern is at the center of this class action lawsuit.

According to the lawsuit, “Millions of other Americans passed by a Ring security camera and unknowingly had their facial recognition information collected.”

Amazon did not immediately respond to a request for comment. At the time the feature was released, the company stated that face data is encrypted and never shared; unidentified faces are automatically removed after 30 days.

Amazon’s Ring has a record of concerning behaviors regarding user privacy. In 2023, Amazon settled with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and paid a $5.8 million fine over allegations that the company’s staff and contractors had improperly accessed private videos from women customers; the FTC’s complaint said that every employee had full access to every customer video, even if the worker had no need to access that footage. Ring has also maintained relationships with law enforcement and once granted police the ability to request Ring footage from users without a warrant.

After airing a Super Bowl ad to introduce Search Party, an AI-powered feature that uses Ring footage to find lost pets, the company faced similar backlash. Days later, Ring canceled its plans to partner with video surveillance company Flock Safety, which has reportedly given footage to ICE and other federal agencies. When Ring founder Jamie Siminoff spoke with TechCrunch after Ring canceled its arrangement with Flock Safety, he indicated that the deal would’ve created too much of a “workload.”
