From the makers of Untitled Goose Game, Big Walk will release for PC, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2 on 4th August. It’s…. a little bit different to Goose Game, though.

Big Walk is just a game about going for a nice hike with your friends. It’s a co-op online walking and talking game where you head out into an open world to find challenges, puzzles and make discoveries.

One of the challenges is simply sticking together and not getting lost, needing you to use walkie-talkies to chat over distances, or improvise with megaphones, binoculars and whiteboards, and flares in the case you lose it.

You might have a plan for somewhere to go, but you can then easily stumble across a challenge based around soundproof glass and with a little reward to have and to hold.

It’s also just a nice chill game, where you can sit and watch the sun go down.

It’s a tiny little bit friendsloppy, in a similar vein to the viral hit Peak, but with a much more relaxed vibe that’s less about the silly challenge and jank, and more about being together.

Star Wars Zero Company will launch on August 27th

At Summer Games Fest, EA and Bit Reactor have confirmed when players can get their hands on the XCOM like Star Wars Zero Company, with the new entry into the series dropping on August 27th for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series XS. Alongside the confirmation of the date, a brand new trailer was unleashed showing what to expect. General Skywalker is one of those you should expect.

Star Wars Zero Company is a turn based tactics game set during the twilight of The Clone Wars, and it follows Hawks, a former Republic Officer, and his group known as Zero Company. All of the Zero Company members are essentially mercenaries for hire from across the galaxy, with each of them having their own skills. You have a droid that will be to able to hack systems, a Jedi that has Force abilities, a Mandalorian armed with all the gadgets, and a Clone Trooper. That isn’t all as these characters are fully customisable, and you will be able to create your own squad members to create a team that adheres to your playstyle. Each of the main characters has their own story which you may learn about if your bonds deepen.

Bit Reactor, the team behind Star Wars Zero Company could be well be creating a spiritual successor to XCOM and that is no light conclusion. Bit Reactor is made up of developers that have worked on the XCOM games, so we would expect to see some of that influence and learning to be present within Star Wars Zero Company.

Esports investment report, August 2022: Oddin.gg, Enthusiast Gaming, FURIA

August was a month of somewhat bad news for big names in esports. FaZe Clan reported a net loss for the second quarter of 2022, and Enthusiast Gaming followed suit on the same day with another announcement of a loss. Nevertheless, Oddin.gg raised a sizeable sum and there were some developments from Brazil to keep last month very interesting.

FURIA to launch esports venue in Miami

Brazilian esports organisation FURIA will expand its presence in the US by launching a new venue in Miami, Florida. This is another step in the organisation’s global expansion plans, and is the first of its kind outside South America.

The 5200 square feet venue, which is planned to open around October or November, will feature a LAN house, FURIA clothing shop, an area for events and a stage for esports fans to watch FURIA games live.

Oddin.gg raises $4.5m in Series A financing round

Esports betting odds provider Oddin.gg has raised $4.5m (£3.7m) through its Series A funding round.

The funding round, led by current investors as well as Genting Ventures and Velo Partners, will be used to scale the company further and develop ‘new verticals’. The funds will be used to improve Oddin.gg’s portfolio of services. According to the company, this means providing betting operators with “everything they need to set up successful business operations”.

FaZe Clan reports Q2 2022 net loss of $9.32m

It feels like all we do in these reports is talk about FaZe, but there are new developments with the NA giants. North American gaming, esports and lifestyle organisation FaZe Clan has reported its first financial results since becoming a publicly listed company.

The organisation’s Q2 2022 report reveals a net loss of $9.32m (~£7.73m) for the period ended June 30th, 2022, an increase over its $7.63m (~£6.33m) net loss record in Q2 2021.

Enthusiast Gaming records $26.05m net loss for the first half of 2022

Speaking of losses, Enthusiast Gaming, the parent company of North American esports organisation Luminosity Gaming, has announced its financial results for both Q2 and H1 2022, ending June 30th 2022.

The company has announced a net loss of $26.05m (~£21.56m) for H1 2022, which is a marginal decrease from the $26.4m (~£21.8m) loss recorded for the same period last year.

Multinational technology company Sony has announced the acquisition of esports tournament platform Repeat.gg as part of its ongoing PlayStation-focused esports expansion.

Sony is looking to expand the breadth of its esports offerings as well as encourage gamers’ engagement with competitive play. Financial details were not disclosed.

Yesports raises $3.8m in latest funding round

Web3 esports engagement platform Yesports has raised $3.8m (~£3.2m) in its latest funding round.

The funds will be primarily used to hire staff members. According to a release, Yesports continues to develop an engagement platform that aims to connect ‘over 500 million global esports fans’ with their favourite teams. The funding round included a number of web3 venture capital firms, some of which participated in the first funding round earlier this year. Rising Captial, BR Capital, and NGC Ventures all participated.

Tiidal Gaming reveals rebrand to Sportflare, intends to sell esports team assets

Toronto-based esports and gaming company Tiidal Gaming has announced plans to rebrand to Sportsflare and sell its esports team assets.

After the divestiture, the company intends to focus exclusively on its technology division. Specifically, this will be through its esports betting solutions firm Sportsflare. The rebrand is expected to come into effect towards the end of the year.
