Riot Games released the Teamfight Fuse for 2XKO just last week, and the community immediately did what fighting game players do best: they broke it. Designed as a dream mechanic for 2v2 duos, Teamfight allows both characters on a team to jump onto the screen simultaneously, effectively turning a tag-team fighter into a chaotic puppet-character beatdown.

It was an instant hit for friends wanting to share a single brain cell, but at the high-level tier, it quickly became an absolute nightmare. The offense was so oppressive that major tournament organizers at Combo Breaker literally banned the Fuse from competitive play just days after launch.

Recognizing that letting two characters execute unblockable-feeling pressure strings might be a bit too much, Riot is dropping the hammer in Patch 1.2.3 on June 9.

The Price of Admission

Right now, Teamfight is a flat, seven-second window of absolute madness that costs one bar of meter from each champion. When the update drops, the duration will scale directly with how much meter you are willing to burn.

You can now dump up to six bars of total meter into the activation. If you buy the cheap seats with a 2-bar activation, you get a measly 5 seconds of screen time. Four bars nets you 10 seconds, and the maximum 6-bar investment buys you a whopping 15 seconds of double-character mayhem. The catch? The system automatically scales to the highest level your team can afford, and it always matches the lowest common denominator between your point and assist meters. If your point character has three bars but your assist character only has one, you are getting the baseline 2-bar version whether you like it or not.

No More Shielding the Tag

The real balance adjustments target how players were using the Fuse to avoid the consequences of their actions. Previously, if an offensive player made a mistake, the assist character could simply jump in, block, or parry the defender’s Break activation, completely shutting down the defender’s attempt to reset the neutral game.

Riot is completely pulling the plug on that strategy. Teamfighting champions can no longer block or parry a Break. Furthermore, if you activate Teamfight raw as a panic option, you are going to get punished. The recovery on activation is jumping from a safe 5 frames to a very punishable 12 frames, preserving your combo extensions but destroying its utility as a get-out-of-jail-free card.

Turning the Tables on Offense

If you are the one stuck in the corner trying to defend against two people mashing buttons at the same time, life is about to get significantly better. Landing a successful parry against a Teamfighting opponent will now instantly terminate the entire mode, turning a high-risk defensive read into a massive reward.

Additionally, if you manage to punch your way through the wall of attacks, every hit you land will now drain the opponent’s Teamfight timer 2.5 times faster than before. You don’t have to just sit there and take the blender; you can literally beat the timer out of them.

The Lobby Divides

The reaction from the player base has been immediate and incredibly mixed. Casual duo players who were enjoying the pure, unadulterated chaos are already mourning the nerf. One frustrated player took to social media, claiming that Teamfight wasn’t even broken and was the only thing making Duos a viable, fun choice against “sweaty solo players” in ranked.

On the other side of the coin, lab monsters are embracing the mechanical depth. Another player noted that the update is excellent, though they wished Riot took it a step further by letting players manually choose their duration tier by pressing Light, Medium, or Heavy during the activation input.

Teamfight enthusiasts are going to have to work a lot harder for their clips after June 9. If you want to run the two-man blender, you better make sure your meter management is flawless, or prepare to get parried straight back to the character select screen.

I want you to look me dead in the eyes and tell me you’ve never copied the way an animal moves in your life. Just try to, I’ll know you’re lying. I know you’ve hopped like a frog, flapped your arms like a bird, ran on all fours like a dog. It’s fun! How about a video game where you sort of do the same thing? Well, I’ve got one in my pouch called Mimic Meadows, a puzzle game in which you copy the movement of animals to transform into them.

Out the gate you will feel a similar kind of vibe to Baba Is You, from its low-key pixel art look to the fact that you move about on a grid axis one square at a time. There’s a similar element in terms of the way you need to think about your space. For example, early on you have to copy the movements of a mountain goat. Normally, you in your regular state can only walk on dirt. Upon copying the mountain goat’s movement and completing your transformation, you can move across rocks (though you have to abandon your ability to walk on dirt to do so) and access a cool looking mushroom.

The demo is out now!

That’s all simple enough, but the difficulty does continue to ramp up. On another level, you may need to move a particular rock to change how a given animal moves so that you can copy it in the limited space that you have. In other levels, doing so may then essentially fuse two other animals together, allowing you to walk on multiple types of terrain (each animal has its own type) when you copy their amalgamated movements. It’s very neat, and exactly the kind of game that encourages you to try weird things out for the sake of it.

It is perhaps a little awkward to mimic those moves well. You don’t have to be right next to an animal to get their ability, but you do need to be moving in the same direction and at the same time as them, which can feel finicky to line up occasionally. I’m sure with enough puzzles that that’s the sort of thing you can get used to! No release date attached to Mimic Meadows, but you can wishlist it on Steam now.
