LEGO is back with another nostalgic hit, and this one’s built for anyone who grew up with Nintendo’s classic chunky grey handheld. The new LEGO Game Boy set is now available to preorder at retailers like Amazon ahead of its October 1 release, and it’s already shaping up to be a must-have for collectors and retro gamers.

This brick-built Game Boy is a near one-to-one scale replica of the original DMG-01 unit, made up of 421 pieces. It even comes with tiny LEGO versions of two classic cartridges: Super Mario Land and original version of The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening.

You can slot either Game Pak into the back of the console, just like the real thing, and the set includes a display stand for whichever cartridge you’re not using.

To add a little flair, LEGO’s included lenticular screens for the front display, so you can swap between a classic Nintendo startup screen and in-game scenes from either title. Tilt it just right, and it even looks like the screen is animating.

It sadly doesn’t actually play games, but LEGO’s all about using your imagination after all, so it still makes for a fantastic piece on your mantle.

It’s priced at $59.99 has been put up for preorders at from major retailers like Amazon and the LEGO Store and Best Buy.

At the time of writing, it seems to be stock for now at the latter two — at least until it releases in October, but the LEGO Game Boy can also still be preordered right now at Walmart for the same price if Amazon runs out.

Given the popularity of previous retro Nintendo sets, like the LEGO NES and the Mario & Yoshi SNES-style diorama, this one’s likely to sell fast.

If you’ve been waiting for a reason to clear a spot on your shelf next to your old cartridges or amiibo collection, this is it. Just don’t expect it to boot up Tetris; it’s strictly for the display case.

Look for the light… and then your wallets, as the PC version of The Last of Us’ Firefly Edition is now available to pre-order for just shy of £100.

For £99.99, to be precise, this edition includes a Steam key for the first part of Joel and Ellie’s story and its prequel DLC Left Behind, a limited edition SteelBook display case (no game disc is included), plus The Last of Us: American Dreams comics (reprinted with new cover art) and a selection of early in-game unlocks.

These earlier unlocks include:

• Increased crafting speed skill
• Increased healing speed skill
• 9mm reload speed increase upgrade
• Rifle clip capacity increase upgrade
• Explosive arrows gameplay modifier
• Dither punk filter
• Speedrun mode
• Six weapon skins: Black gold 9mm pistol, filigree 9mm pistol, sculpted oak shotgun, rubber tactical shotgun, Ellie’s bow in arctic white, Ellie’s bow in carbon black

If you are looking for a cheaper option, you can also pre-purchase the Digital Deluxe Edition for PC through both Steam and the Epic Game Store.

This edition costs £59.99, and comes with the base game, the Left Behind DLC and the same early unlocks as above.

You will be missing out on the American Dream comics and the display case (although, between you and me, the comics are currently available on Amazon with their former covers at a more reasonable price).

Meanwhile, for those keeping track, the asking price for the PC version of the Firefly Edition is the same as it was for PlayStation 5. This PS5 edition is currently unavailable, and Sony has said that “due to high demand” those looking to snap up a PC copy will be limited to one copy per order.

Just as a reminder, The Last of Us Part 1 will arrive on PC a little later than expected, with Naughty Dog recently announcing a new 28th March release date to ensure the game arrives “in the best possible shape”.

“The Naughty Dog team appreciates your support and enthusiasm,” the studio wrote. “We look forward to sharing more about The Last of Us Part 1 PC version soon”.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder getting the Switch 2 Edition + expansion treatment in March feels like Nintendo making the correct call, and I couldn’t think of a better game to be getting that bit more attention on the new system.

To mark the new-gen upgrade and the arrival of the Meetup in Bellabel Park DLC, Nintendo is also rolling out three brand-new amiibo tied to the game. Each one costs $24.99 and they all launch on March 26, the same day the new content goes live. Pre-orders are already open.

The lineup includes Elephant Mario, Captain Toad with a Talking Flower, and Poplin with Prince Florian. Elephant Mario is exactly as charming as it sounds, squeezing his oversized elephant form halfway out of a pipe. The Poplin amiibo features the bright orange character clutching a watering can, with Prince Florian perched on top of his head. Captain Toad, meanwhile, strikes a celebratory pose alongside the ever-chatty Talking Flower.

And because Nintendo cannot resist leaning into its own weirdness, there is also a standalone Talking Flower toy on the way. Yes, it actually talks to you. Yes, it is also available to preorder right now as well for $34.99.

As for the Switch 2 version of Super Mario Bros. Wonder itself, Nintendo is charging $79.99, which is exactly as ridiculous as it sounds. Thankfully, there is a workaround if the original Switch version is not already sitting on your shelf. You can currently grab the standard Switch release for $46.99 at Woot, then upgrade to the Switch 2 Edition via the eShop for $19.99 once the expansion drops.

That brings the total to $64.99 for the full Switch 2 experience, saving $15 in the process. Not bad at all, especially when the alternative is paying full Nintendo tax for the privilege.
