Brazilian strawweight and UFC star Polyana Viana says she’d like to do cosplay walkouts but the UFC won’t allow it.

Polyana Viana returns to the octagon this weekend for UFC on ESPN 51, where she’ll face off against Iasmin Lucindo at Las Vegas’ UFC Apex. The bout’s set for Saturday, August 12, and will be aired on ESPN and the streaming service ESPN+.

In addition to her prowess at mixed martial arts, Viana is also well known for cosplaying some of her favorite anime characters. Every so often, the strawweight shares photos of these cosplay endeavors on Instagram, one of which shows her decked out in garb inspired by Naruto’s Konan.

While Viana would like to see the two worlds collide, she recently revealed that UFC has strict rules when it comes to walkouts.

UFC star says cosplay walkouts are prohibited

When asked by MMA Junkie if she’d consider walking out wearing cosplay if it was allowed, Viana revealed that she’s actually asked to do so several times in the past.

Viana told the reporter through an interpreter,

“I’ve tried so many times, and I’ve actually asked to come in with a bandana. They’ve never allowed it. I wanted a cape… I’ve tried with like a blank bandana. I can’t. Apparently, Naruto is a brand that does not allow it or something like that. I’ve tried so many times. I’ve asked. They never let me do it, but if I could, definitely I would.”

The brief anime discussion begins around the 4:25 timestamp in the video linked below (via MMA Junkie):

It’s unfortunate that the organization’s rules prevent the UFC star from living out her anime cosplay dreams. But she’d probably be at home in the wrestling world, given how often WWE and AEW fighters dress up as their favorite pop culture characters.

Jade Cargill famously dressed up as She-Hulk for AEW All Out 2022. Cargill’s also known for entering the arena in attire inspired by Jade from Mortal Kombat. And WWE’s Tommaso Ciampa brought Kratos to the ring for Halloween a couple of years ago.

If you’ve played the Star Fox demo on Switch 2, then you’ll know that it’s an absolute visual feast, updating the N64 original to a degree we simply never thought possible (ball’s in your court now, Ocarina).

One person who’s been open about how much the update has impacted him is none other than Takaya Imamura, the art director for Star Fox 64 and the developer largely responsible for the series’ overall presentation.

Speaking on X, Imamura-san explained how the N64’s limited hardware made it difficult to convey the differences between pre-rendered graphics and real-time CG at the time. As such, he says that the improved visuals for the Switch 2 version “brings tears to my eyes”.

Here’s what he had to say (machine translated):

“Back in the Nintendo 64 days, it was a struggle to get people to understand the difference between pre-rendered graphics and real-time CG. Many people thought the beautiful cutscenes on the PlayStation were simply a reflection of the console’s capabilities.

“That’s why, with Star Fox 64, we aimed to create demo scenes and presentations that were just as impressive as pre-rendered graphics, while still pursuing the unique appeal of real-time graphics. In that sense, the improvements in graphics this time around really bring tears to my eyes.”

Previously, Imamura-san stated that although he likes the design of Fox McCloud in the new game, he personally prefers the movie version. No, there’s no Star Fox Movie – as a reminder, the character actually crops up in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie; a surprise Nintendo itself revealed prior to its release with an official poster.

Even if you’ve yet to play the demo, hopefully the trailers and footage so far has demonstrated just how much of an upgrade this is. In terms of gameplay, it’s largely the same experience that we all went through back in 1997, though some additional content has been added to beef up the overall package.

Silent Hill 2 remakers Bloober Team are boldly going where few horror devs have gone before in Star Trek: Shadow Frontier, a “psychological thriller” starring Ro Laren https://gaming.vmondeika.com/silent-hill-2-remakers-bloober-team-are-boldly-going-where-few-horror-devs-have-gone-before-in-star-trek-shadow-frontier-a-psychological-thriller-starring-ro-laren/ https://gaming.vmondeika.com/silent-hill-2-remakers-bloober-team-are-boldly-going-where-few-horror-devs-have-gone-before-in-star-trek-shadow-frontier-a-psychological-thriller-starring-ro-laren/#respond Sun, 07 Jun 2026 15:23:47 +0000 https://gaming.vmondeika.com/silent-hill-2-remakers-bloober-team-are-boldly-going-where-few-horror-devs-have-gone-before-in-star-trek-shadow-frontier-a-psychological-thriller-starring-ro-laren/

Here’s one I wasn’t quite expecting: Silent Hill 2 remake and Cronos: The New Dawn developers Bloober Team are working on a Star Trek game in collaboration with license owners Paramount. As you might imagine, given Bloober’s pedigree, it doesn’t appear to be a very uplifting Star Trek game. It is not a Star Trek game in which you would expect to have an Earl Grey teaparty on the Holodeck, with Data playing the viola. Called Star Trek: Shadow Frontier, it’s a “psychological thriller” set on an uncharted planet that has become a spaceship graveyard. Something with tendrils lurks hereabouts, and it’s trying to eat your mind.

In Shadow Frontier, you play no less than Ro Laren, a Bajoran Federation officer (and later, Maquis turncoat) introduced by Star Trek: The Next Generation back in the 90s, with original actress Michelle Forbes supplying voice and motion capture. She’s come to the planet to answer a distress call, which is never a great opening move. “As she explores the planet’s corrupted surface and crosses paths with other survivors, she must face twisted creatures, a hostile ecosystem, and an entity that seeks to envelop her body and mind,” explains the press release. The aesthetics slop Zdzisław Beksiński-flavoured effluence over what could be Romulan or perhaps Klingon interiors. Yeah, we’re a long way from the campy fixtures of the original Star Trek series. Here’s a trailer.

Watch on YouTube

Bloober are making Shadow Frontier in partnership with Paramount Games Studio – a new “unified” development operation that encompasses Skydance Interactive and Skydance New Media, announced amid layoff-ridden restructuring as Paramount complete their $82 billion acquisition of Warner Bros Discovery. In a statement, PGS head of creative and production Shawn Kittelsen enthuses that “we have full confidence in Bloober’s ability to deliver a game that does justice to the Star Trek name while bringing something bold and new to the beloved franchise”.

Bloober CEO Piotr Babieno is similarly flush with ecstasy for things both bold and beloved. “As lifelong fans of science fiction, Star Trek has always held a special place in our hearts,” he says in the release. “By combining that passion with what we do best, horror, we’ve partnered with Paramount to create something truly unique: a new adventure set in a beloved universe, enriched with our own signature layer of dark, psychological thriller. We’re genuinely excited about this journey, and our hope is to honor the legacy of Star Trek in a way that feels both respectful yet refreshingly different.”

As a recovering Trekker, it’s been years since I thought about Ro Laren, but off the top of my head, her backstory would suit a “dark, psychological thriller”. She’s a convict, defector, secret agent – an absolute piece of work, basically. The Bajorans at large are Star Trek’s one-size-fits-all analogy for displaced and traumatised peoples throughout history. Bloober have never been particularly subtle in how they depict trauma, and I confess, I can imagine their attempts to plumb Star Trek’s subconsciousness going very badly. I am, however, intrigued by the pitch in general.

It’s out in 2027, and you can read more on Steam. Curious about the ins and outs of adapting Star Trek? You might want to peruse this interview with the founder of Zachtronics about their abandoned pitch for a Next Generation engineering sim.

Horror Specialist Bloober Team Is Releasing A New Star Trek Game On Switch 2 https://gaming.vmondeika.com/horror-specialist-bloober-team-is-releasing-a-new-star-trek-game-on-switch-2/ https://gaming.vmondeika.com/horror-specialist-bloober-team-is-releasing-a-new-star-trek-game-on-switch-2/#respond Sun, 07 Jun 2026 06:42:25 +0000 https://gaming.vmondeika.com/horror-specialist-bloober-team-is-releasing-a-new-star-trek-game-on-switch-2/

Bloober Team, the Polish horror game specialist behind titles like Cronos: New Dawn, has this week announced Star Trek: Shadow Frontier in partnership with Paramount Games. It will be “Coming Soon” to the Switch 2 and multiple other platforms.

The game is described as a psychological story-driven action-adventure set in third-person, where players take on the role of Ro Laren, who must survive a breathtaking but lethal environment located in the expansive Star Trek universe. Here’s some information via the Steam listing:

“After crashing onto a distant planet overtaken by a strange consciousness, Ro Laren must survive in an environment that is as breathtaking as it is lethal. In true Star Trek fashion, Ro’s mission is driven by duty and purpose. But here, discovery comes at a terrible cost. The more she uncovers, the deeper she is pulled into a corrupted labyrinth where her memories twist and the planet threatens to sever her connection to reality. Only by solving the mysteries of this strange world can Ro hope to make peace with the demons of her past, boldly going into the heart of darkness like never before.”

Throughout her story, she’ll have to deal with dangerous creatures and surroundings, and choose whether or not to engage in combat or outmaneuver the enemy. The hostile ecosystem also poses a “constant threat”, as it attempts to absorb Ro’s consciousness, “burrowing deep in her mind and plaguing her with haunting visions”.

Bloober also promises to offer a good blend of “exploration, puzzles, combat and cinematic set-pieces” wrapped up in a “gripping” story adventure that rewards “patience, observation and smart decision-making”. According to the content description, you can also expect “intense violence, blood and gore against aliens”.

If this wasn’t enough for one day, Bloober Team has also announced Cronos: Lazarus DLC will be arriving in “Fall 2026“.

“Return to the wastelands of New Dawn as the once-loyal Pathfinder in the process of transforming into the Warden you know and love from the base game. Isolated in the Terminal and severed from the Collective, he devotes every waking moment to awakening a lost Essence he refuses to let fade. Uncover fragments of Warden’s past, teleport, strike, and outrun a relentless hunter.”

Star Wars Zero Company will launch on August 27th https://gaming.vmondeika.com/star-wars-zero-company-will-launch-on-august-27th/ https://gaming.vmondeika.com/star-wars-zero-company-will-launch-on-august-27th/#respond Fri, 05 Jun 2026 22:19:54 +0000 https://gaming.vmondeika.com/star-wars-zero-company-will-launch-on-august-27th/

At Summer Games Fest, EA and Bit Reactor have confirmed when players can get their hands on the XCOM like Star Wars Zero Company, with the new entry into the series dropping on August 27th for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series XS. Alongside the confirmation of the date, a brand new trailer was unleashed showing what to expect. General Skywalker is one of those you should expect.

Star Wars Zero Company is a turn based tactics game set during the twilight of The Clone Wars, and it follows Hawks, a former Republic Officer, and his group known as Zero Company. All of the Zero Company members are essentially mercenaries for hire from across the galaxy, with each of them having their own skills. You have a droid that will be to able to hack systems, a Jedi that has Force abilities, a Mandalorian armed with all the gadgets, and a Clone Trooper. That isn’t all as these characters are fully customisable, and you will be able to create your own squad members to create a team that adheres to your playstyle. Each of the main characters has their own story which you may learn about if your bonds deepen.

Bit Reactor, the team behind Star Wars Zero Company could be well be creating a spiritual successor to XCOM and that is no light conclusion. Bit Reactor is made up of developers that have worked on the XCOM games, so we would expect to see some of that influence and learning to be present within Star Wars Zero Company.

Popular cosplay influencer Kit Noel has been arrested after allegedly threatening to plant a bomb at a Texas anime convention during a feud over an energy drink brand.

Kit Noel, whose real name is Kendra Noel Manning, attended the San Japan Anime & Gaming Convention in San Antonio, Texas when tensions reportedly escalated online between Kit and a “rival cosplayer.” Known for her elaborate cosplays and active social media following, Noel’s was arrested after a member of the cosplaying community reported a comment she made to the police.

According to an arrest affidavit obtained by the San Antonio Express-News, Manning allegedly wrote “Planting a bomb in their booth today” on Instagram in response to another user who commented “F*** Gamersupps. Entitled Weirdos.” After another user saw the comment and notified law enforcement, Manning was denied entry to San Japan, issued a criminal trespass warning, and ultimately arrested on a third-degree felony charge of making a terroristic threat to impair public service.

She was booked into Bexar County Jail on a $35,000 bond before being released under strict conditions, including house arrest with GPS monitoring, drug and alcohol testing, and a prohibition on possessing firearms.

Round Up: The First Previews Are In For Star Fox On Switch 2 https://gaming.vmondeika.com/round-up-the-first-previews-are-in-for-star-fox-on-switch-2/ https://gaming.vmondeika.com/round-up-the-first-previews-are-in-for-star-fox-on-switch-2/#respond Tue, 02 Jun 2026 18:38:48 +0000 https://gaming.vmondeika.com/round-up-the-first-previews-are-in-for-star-fox-on-switch-2/

Let’s see what a handful of other outlets are saying about this one, eh?

Things were equally positive over at Game Informer, with the preview giving a shoutout to the new cutscenes and their contextualising power:

In the campaign, I get a chance to see the call between Fox and General Pepper in the lead-up to the first mission on Corneria. The mission briefing is much more organic and grants significantly more context about what’s happening in the galaxy.

There were more positive vibes from VGC, even if some of the squad’s new characterisations might take some getting used to.

While these scenes look fantastic, I wasn’t 100% convinced they enhanced the snappier arcade flow of the original game, and they also present character traits that feel quite at odds with what I remember.

Polygon’s preview says the Switch 2 release “may very well be the best version of a beloved game yet”, with an “intense” new Pilot and Gunner mode to boot:

It’s an intriguing twist on Nintendo’s brand of two-player co-op, and I think it will be an unexpectedly beloved new addition to some familiar Star Fox gameplay.

For something a little less rosy, TechRadar’s preview argues that, regardless of how neat the new version is, all of these Star Fox 64 remakes are getting silly now:

With its release, almost half of the series’ nine mainline games will be some version of Star Fox 64, and when there hasn’t been a new game for almost a decade, surely now is the time for something more new and exciting.

It was back to positivity with IGN, which describes this fresh take as being “like ‘A New Hope’ for the franchise:

Its stages certainly don’t feel old or out of place by comparison: its crisp graphics, snappy controls, and majestic orchestral soundtrack match the grand scope Nintendo appears to be aiming for.

EXCLUSIVE: Obsession Star Megan Lawless Breaks Down Sarah’s Shocking Fate, Fan Reactions, and What’s Next https://gaming.vmondeika.com/exclusive-obsession-star-megan-lawless-breaks-down-sarahs-shocking-fate-fan-reactions-and-whats-next/ https://gaming.vmondeika.com/exclusive-obsession-star-megan-lawless-breaks-down-sarahs-shocking-fate-fan-reactions-and-whats-next/#respond Tue, 02 Jun 2026 16:02:54 +0000 https://gaming.vmondeika.com/exclusive-obsession-star-megan-lawless-breaks-down-sarahs-shocking-fate-fan-reactions-and-whats-next/ [ad_1]

Horror fans can’t get enough of the movie Obsession. Written and directed by Curry Barker, Obsession follows Bear (Michael Johnston), a hopeless romantic who makes a wish on a One Wish Willow to make his friend and crush, Nikki (Inde Navarrette), fall in love with him. While his wish comes true, his dream romance turns into a bloody nightmare that threatens to destroy him and everyone around him.

After it was made on a budget of less than $1 million, Obsession achieved universal acclaim in theaters, receiving a 96% Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It also grossed over $100 million at the box office in just three weeks, according to Box Office Mojo, making it one of the most successful horror movies of the decade.

In an interview with Digital Trends, Obsession actor Megan Lawless, who portrayed Bear’s friend and secondary love interest, Sarah, in the film, discussed how she brought her beloved character to life, what it was like making the movie with the cast and crew, and what the future holds for her after its unprecedented success.

This interview has been edited for length and clarity.

Digital Trends: Megan, thank you so much for joining me today. Let’s get started. How [are] you doing?

Lawless: I’m great. How are you?

Digital Trends: I’m fantastic. Everyone, including myself, can’t get enough of Obsession. It just grossed over $100 million at the box office, and I’ve been seeing a lot of people online saying how much they loved your performance as Sarah in the film. So I was wondering if you could tell us how it feels to see so many people react to your character in this way.

Lawless: It’s great. I mean, I’ve always loved Sarah, and I was hoping that people could extrapolate a lot from the time that I was on screen and really root for her. That was always my goal: for people to root for her. So now that I’m seeing everyone rooting for her…in the comments, it just makes me really happy that they love her the way I love her, and that all the elements came together to get fans to support her and root for her.

Digital Trends: Awesome. I’m really curious about what your inspirations were for bringing [Sarah’s] character to life.

Lawless: Oh, that’s a great question. I don’t know if I had any specific inspirations, per se. I think I just read her off the page, and I understood her pretty immediately. And then after talking with Curry and just making sure that our vision aligned, I felt that just bringing a lot of myself into it and perspective. Her perspectives on everything, I think, shape her as a character as well a lot. So, yeah, that was pretty much it.

I stylistically drew inspiration from Hayley Williams and more punk rock-type girls, more than myself. We have very different styles, me and Sarah. So, that was really fun. And then, I was looking at different punky cool chicks on Pinterest and stuff to get inspiration on my hair because we changed my hair for me to play Sarah. So I was looking for a haircut that I thought would embody how I viewed Sarah to be. And then, Blair [James], the costume designer, got everything aligned, and then she came together visually, and that was the really fun part of the process.

Digital Trends: Awesome. What was it like working with everyone on the set of this film? I’ve seen behind the scenes [footage]. It seems like you were all having the time of your lives on it. So I wonder if you can tell us more about that.

Lawless: Oh, we did have the time of our lives. It was just incredible. I say this time and time again, but I’ve never been so close with my castmates…and crew members than I have been with Obsession. Me and Inde, she slept in my bed. We had sleepovers twice last weekend, and we do so much together.

And me and Haley Johnson, our producer, I can call her up anytime. And we also hang out outside of work. We are really good friends. I’ve developed such deep friendships with people I work with. We throw game nights sometimes, and we still are maintaining a really great friendship and rapport.

Even after stopping filming and after the film has been released, we’re making an effort to keep seeing each other. And that has never happened for me to this level. And it’s just another huge blessing that comes out of Obsession. It’s just so special, every part of it.

Digital Trends: That’s really fantastic to hear. It’s so great to have a community of friends [who] get together to make films together. It’s just really great to see that dynamic brought to life on the screen.

Speaking of Inde, I’ve seen videos online. You really seem like the best of friends right now. But compared to your characters in the film, they were really clashing over what was going on. A lot of the terror came from [Inde’s] character as Nikki. Were there times during the production where you were genuinely terrified of her and what she was bringing to the film?

Lawless: I must say, no. Inde does not genuinely terrify me because I just know her so well, and it’s hard to remove. But I will say that I was constantly in awe of her performances. I just thought they were incredible. The way she would transform.

But yeah, behind all the movie magic and like, just in between takes coming and being able to joke around and have fun, that removed all of the fear for me when I watch it now as a whole. I watched it in a theater or something. Then I can remove myself from the story and really be engaged with the story from more of an outside perspective, I would say, but never on set.

Digital Trends: Right. And speaking of story, one of the most talked about parts of the movie is that scene in the car when Nikki attacks you with that brick. That had my jaw on the floor. It was so shocking, and the tragedy [that] comes afterwards after Bear opens that acceptance letter. That broke my heart. So I was wondering if you could tell us more about what you thought about that scene being in the film.

Lawless: Oh, my gosh. Yeah. I mean, I loved the scene. I had a feeling, even before I started reading it, that my character would be killed off. All anyone can hope for is that her death scene is iconic, and people will talk about it, and it will really make audiences feel something. And I can say without a doubt…it really is a strong moment in the film where everything changes for Bear.

It’s the catalyst that leads us to the finale of the film, and it’s just so momentous, and I love how much gravitas it has. When I was reading it, it was just so insane, I was really stoked about it. And I was really curious as well to see how we would pull all the pieces together to make it happen. So the whole process was really fun, making that scene what you see on the film.

Digital Trends: Absolutely. I mean, it reminded me of this similar scene from The Haunting of Hill House…There’s, like, a similar jump-scare sort of scene in the car that changes everything. And I got that same feeling watching that scene in the theater.

And another thing I was really intrigued by the film is the dynamic between Sarah and her friends. With Bear, Ian, and Nikki. Once the wish has been made and Freaky Nikki is just dominating [Nikki’s] life, everyone just tries to keep [their] distance while saying she just needs psychiatric help, not knowing what’s really going on with her. But it really feels like they’re just trying to distance themselves from the issue.

In your opinion, do you think Sarah really considers Nikki like a friend or more just [as] competition for Bear’s affection?

Lawless: I was talking about this the other day a little bit with Inde, actually. I think they’ve been friends for a long time. But I think this is one of those friend groups where they go way back. They’ve known each other since high school. And I think this might be a point in their lives where, if the events of the film didn’t unfold, they would start moving in different directions.

So they’re moving on to different chapters of their life. I want to go to art school. Nikki wants to quit [her] job so that she can work more on her writing. And so it might be a friend-group dynamic [where] they’ve outgrown each other a little.

I definitely think Nikki and Sarah are friends, and they’ve known each other a while, and obviously, at the start of the film, I’m comfortable enough with Nikki to confide in her that I have feelings for Bear, and that’s why she brings it up to Bear in the car that Sarah was talking about [him] all day. You know? She has a crush on [him]. And we definitely have a good enough friendship to have that sort of rapport.

But I think from Sarah’s perspective, when everything starts to unfold, and her friend has now kind of betrayed her. She exposed her feelings for Bear to Nikki, and then all of a sudden, Nikki is dating Bear the next day.

I think that would feel like a huge betrayal and probably sows a lot of seeds of doubt in Sarah’s mind [about] her friend and these friendships that she has… and she is trying to figure out why her friends would change their tune so suddenly.

And it must feel kind of personal. It would feel personal, or personal to me, if my best friend started dating the guy I’ve been telling her all about that I like the next day. [It] would feel like an attack.

Digital Trends: Right. Going back to what you said. The wish is really what causes the friend group to unravel. Part of me was wondering, “If Bear had never made that wish, do you think he would have ended up with Nikki, or would he have eventually been with Sarah?”

Don’t get me wrong. What he did later on in the film was awful. But there was some glimmers of hope for all their characters before that fateful wish.

Lawless: Yeah. I’m not quite sure what would have happened. I like to believe that Sarah was close to telling Bear herself about her feelings. I even like to believe at [the trivia night], she has been telling Nikki about her feelings, and Nikki’s supposed to probe it all and eventually [Sarah] would get to tell Bear how she feels. After gauging his feelings, though, Bear has no feelings for her. So maybe, if she had heard that, she would have been like, “OK, never mind.”

I shouldn’t even try, but I think without the wish…Bear is not suitable to be in any relationship. [They] are mature enough to avoid someone that, if they were to get keyed on in that, they would avoid being with Bear because they understand that he has a lot of development and growth that he needs to work through before being in a relationship.

Digital Trends: Yeah, that’s what I thought, too. Sometimes in these situations, people just kind of like to learn to be comfortable with themselves before they can really be with others. So that’s something that Bear was never able to really get over. He was so desperate not to be alone that he basically just destroyed everyone’s lives.

Lawless: Yeah, that is just really, really dangerous…It’s just really damaging for all parties.

Digital Trends: Absolutely. So, after Obsession, what other projects are you working on right now?

Lawless: So I’m going to start filming another project, another film, it’s a thriller, next month. I’m not quite sure if I can name what it is, but you’ll see something in the news soon, I’m sure. I think there’ll be an article that is released about the cast eventually. But I do have plans to do that. And then, that’ll be really fun, another feature horror. Totally different kicker, which I like.

And then, we’ll see about that. I’ve been talking to a lot of people, meeting a lot of people, and reading a lot of scripts. So the possibilities are kind of endless. And it’s very exciting. I would love to do another film, but like a drama or work on a show, a dramatic show. I would love to just really explore my craft even more on a larger scale. So we will see.

Digital Trends: Yeah. I’m really looking forward to seeing whatever you do next. I think it’s going to be really great.

Lawless: Aw, thanks.

Digital Trends: Oh, you’re welcome. Now, as far as the future, I mean, do you see yourself working with Curry and anyone else from Obsession again? I know the cast of Curry’s next film, Anything But Ghosts, was just announced, but what about his Texas Chain Saw film? Do you see yourself working with any of them?

Lawless: Absolutely. I would love to work with all of them again. I got the opportunity to work with Haley Johnson, our producer, again on a short that we did before Obsession actually came out in theaters, but after we had filmed Obsession. And it was just so nice to have so many crew members and stuff, all of us together, because sometimes when you film, it’s like you wrap, and then you don’t get the opportunity to relive what you just did. This incredible thing you just did.

I would just love to work with Curry again. I would [with] Inde again. I mean, the whole cast I would work together again…you never know. We’ll see how things pan out. But we all have such good relationships with each other. I wouldn’t be surprised.

Digital Trends: That’s all really terrific to hear. I can’t wait to see what you all do next.

New Star Fox

Nintendo shared a lengthy slice of gameplay for Star Fox, their new reimagining of Star Fox 64 with new visuals, improvements, and more.

Here’s a rundown on the new details, plus the new gameplay:

In Star Fox, the Lylat System is thrown into chaos following a surprise attack by the evil scientist Andross. The galaxy’s last hope is the Star Fox Mercenary Squad – comprised of young leader Fox McCloud, ace pilot Falco Lombardi, engineer extraordinaire Slippy Toad and veteran pilot Peppy Hare.

Today’s overview trailer gives fans a sneak peek at the game’s freshly revamped stages, thanks to a complete visual overhaul, and dives into a variety of new and returning modes. In Campaign Mode, you’ll soar across the Lylat System as you accept dangerous missions and discover branching paths to uncover every piece of the story. This mode can also be played online through GameShare 2 or via local co-op, where one player is the Pilot and the other is the Gunner. Plus, use Mouse-Controlled Targeting with the Joy-Con 2 controller for intuitive aiming. And Challenge Mode offers new challenges and a variety of objectives you can complete when replaying cleared stages from the campaign.

Battle Mode features 4-vs.-4 aerial combat online3 with friends or random players across three stages. If one person has the game, up to four players can play Battle Mode locally with GameShare, or online using GameShare via GameChat. With a compatible USB camera, you can also appear in GameChat4 as Fox McCloud or his crew using an interactive avatar that mirrors your facial expressions and movements.

Now’s the perfect time to start building your Star Fox playlist! A special release of 10 tracks from Star Fox has been added to Nintendo Music5. All of the tracks available through Nintendo Music can now be enjoyed on a wide variety of devices, including tablets, computers, and even in the car via Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. Additionally, the new My Mix feature for Nintendo Music can generate a playlist based on your play history.

Star Fox is in development for Nintendo Switch 2 with a global release set for this summer, on June 25th.
